Josh Aaseng is a writer and director for theatre and film, currently based in Seattle.
Josh Aaseng is a writer and director for theatre and film. His debut documentary Manifest Destiny Jesus (co-produced and directed with Daemond Arrindell and T. Geronimo Johnson) has played festivals in the US and Canada and won the Audience Choice Award at the 2021 DC Black Film Festival. In the theatre he’s worked nationally and internationally at such venues as The Guthrie Theatre, PS 122 COIL Festival, the Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival, On the Boards, ACT Theatre and Book-It Repertory Theatre, among others. From 2012-2020 he served as literary manager, then associate artistic director at Book-It Repertory Theatre in Seattle where he wrote and directed adaptations of Everything is Illuminated; Welcome to Braggsville (co-written with Daemond Arrindell); and Slaughterhouse-Five; in addition to supporting the development of dozens of world premiere stage adaptations. He is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, an avid marathoner, and dedicated dad of two.
