As a Venezuelan-born, New York-based producer with a rich 25-year history in both fiction and documentary production, my latest endeavor, Children of Las Brisas, stands as a testament to the power of storytelling amid adversity. This compelling documentary follows the lives of three young musicians—Edixon, Dissandra, and Wuilly— as they navigate the challenges of pursuing their passion within the tumultuous landscape of Venezuela's political and economic collapse.

Children of Las Brisas is a profound coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of a nation in upheaval. The film explores the impact of an authoritarian regime on the lives of individuals, specifically the young musicians who once thrived in the "El Sistema" music program. Unlike other media on the subject, our narrative delves beyond the glorification of the program, offering a nuanced portrayal of the Venezuelan crisis and the harsh realities faced by those pursuing classical music careers in a crumbling country.

What stood out for me during the production process was witnessing the dedication and resilience of the children we followed, exemplifying how dreams can propel individuals through immense hardships. The film has not only garnered global recognition and awards but also illuminates the Venezuelan tragedy, humanizing the experiences of its diaspora.

Our journey doesn't end with the film's completion; we've taken Children of Las Brisas on a worldwide tour, screening it at prestigious festivals like Sheffield Film Festival and DOC NYC, as well as universities and high schools. The film has already made an impact, fostering understanding and empathy among audiences. This project, a decade in the making, is not just a Venezuelan story; it reflects the universal struggle required of those with dreams, wherever they may live in the world.

I invite you to watch the trailer and learn more about Children of Las Brisas.
