Dana Forsberg

Dana Forsberg is an award-winning filmmaker whose work focuses on youth empowerment. Her films have been showcased at HotDocs Toronto, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and Hawaii International Film Festival. Dana received her master’s degree in Social Documentation from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Dana Forsberg’s films have been showcased at HotDocs Toronto, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and Hawaii International Film Festival. She was recently commissioned to create a film, Warrior Mothers, exploring the stories of three women whose lives have intersected with Child Protective Services. Before turning to film, Dana was a successful photographic artist whose work explored memory, stereotypes, and later youth empowerment, culminating in India through Girls Eyes: Empowering Village Girls with Cameras, a project designed to help families see value in educating their daughters. Seeking a way to incorporate narrative more strongly in her work on youth empowerment, she turned to film and Growing People.

Dana grew up in Europe and spent time in Colorado and Hawaii before moving to California to study documentary filmmaking. She received her master’s degree in Social Documentation from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2013.
