In and Out of Time takes a sympathetic look, through a granddaughter's eyes, at some of the changes that Alzheimer's Disease brings to a family relationship. As the past grows dimmer for her grandmother, the filmmaker searches for ways to make the present more meaningful, and discovers that personal connections do not necessarily depend on shared memories. In several extraordinary scenes the viewer witnesses the power that art, music and affection can have in creating momentary relief from suffering. "If this moment will mean nothing later," remarks the filmmaker, "in a sense it means everything now."

...immensely moving, beautifully balanced between personal feeling and objectivity . . . should be widely seen.

The camera observes its subject closely, but with extraordinary empathy rather than unblinking voyeurism...a small masterpiece of tenderness and compassion.
SF Weekly
This gem is worthy of the many awards it has received...a thoughtful and moving piece. Appropriate for any library, it would lend any seminar, class, or discussion group the stimuli for thought about human relationships.
